Software: All behind the scenes
There’s no software you have to install locally to use the Nighthawk X6. In fact, if you use WPS to connect to your router, it’s possible you may never have to see the extender’s interface. If you need to change settings, though, you will end up having to use the web browser. The same goes for if the extender loses connection with the router. You’ll need to connect over wired or wireless connection to log in and troubleshoot.
Don’t let the web interface scare you, though. There are plenty of options available for advanced users that let you do things like limit usage to set times, set a static IP for the extender, use MAC filtering, and all the standard options you usually get with a Netgear product. That said, you won’t see the same variety as you would with custom firmware like OpenWRT.
Lifewire / Scot Braswell

Performance 3.8
The Netgear EX3700 AC750 had decent results in our speed tests, considering its price. Using Wi-Fi on the 5 GHz band, we were able to obtain the following max speeds:
- 138.72 Mbps at 5 feet
- 122.7 Mbps at 15 feet
- 120.89 Mbps at 25 feet
That isn’t a typo; yes, the speed remained almost constant over a range of 5 to 25 feet.
When connected to our router with Ethernet, the EX3700 extender got faster speeds; it exceeded Wi-Fi speed and measured in at:
- 216.32 Mbps at 5 feet
- 122.68 Mbps at 15 feet
- 98.83 Mbps at 25 feet
If you have a 200 Mbps or slower Internet connection, the Netgear EX3700’s Wi-Fi and Ethernet speeds are good enough for those plans. Compared to the other extenders we tested, it ranks near the bottom for speed.
Still, the EX3700 is fast enough to stream a few 4k movies simultaneously.
We’d like to include we tested this extender with our ASUS RT-AX88U router, which is both quick and powerful. If you connect with a slower or less capable router, your speeds and range could be less.
You can also use this extender to hard-wire local devices with Ethernet. Connect your gaming console, printer, or desktop PC to its Ethernet port for even quicker performance.
The Netgear EX3700 is a dual-band Wi-Fi booster with less bandwidth than tri-band extenders. The EX3700 has fewer bands (just one 2.4 GHz and one 5 GHz band, as opposed to tri-band units with two 5 GHz bands). The downside is you can’t connect as many wireless devices.
Even though it has a slower speed than the other extender we tested and its dual-band limitation, the Netgear EX3700 performs well with low-cost Internet plans and is one of the easiest units to set up. It works best with Internet packages offering speeds of up to 200 Mbps.
Range 3.9
During our testing, the Netgear EX3700 had a decent coverage area of 50 feet on Wi-Fi and 60 feet on Ethernet.
The EX3700’s Wi-Fi coverage area is good and will provide ample range for most average to above-average homes.
Just remember to install the extender about halfway between your Wi-Fi dead spot and router to get the greatest coverage and speeds.
If you need Wi-Fi in hard-to-reach areas in your home, the EX3700 can meet your needs.
On Wi-Fi and Ethernet, the AEX3700’s range was right in the middle compared to the other extenders we tested.
Design 4.5
The Netgear EX3700 AC750 is a wall-mounted Wi-Fi booster that connects directly to the wall outlet. This is convenient because it doesn’t take up space on your desk or shelf. However, if you’re wiring it to a power strip, it may interfere with other outlets.
But, compared to other plug-type extenders, it is quite a bit smaller. It’s 2.64 inches tall, 1.54 inches deep, and 2.17 inches wide, making it about the size of a deck of cards. This means it probably won’t block other outlets.
The EX3700 has an Ethernet connection that you can use to connect gaming consoles, computers, and network printers to your network. You can also use the Ethernet connection to connect directly to your Wi-Fi router (to get faster speeds).
Setup 5.0
The Netgear EX3700 AC750 gave us absolutely zero difficulties during setup. It connected immediately and worked well. After connecting, the setup process was quick and easy.
All we had to do was download the app, and it was ready to go. It only took about a minute overall.
The EX3700 does, however, make a separate network. As a result, if you move your wireless devices around your home frequently, you’ll have to jump between the secondary and primary networks (which can be inconvenient).
Value 4.8
The Netgear EX3700 AC750 is a terrific value for the money. It’s one of the least expensive extenders we tested, costing far less than most of them. But don’t let its low cost fool you. It delivers a good range and Wi-Fi and Ethernet speed good enough for slower Internet plans.
Despite some minor drawbacks, such as creating a separate network and lacking a tri-band feature, the EX3700 is a good investment.
But it isn’t appropriate for all Internet plans; we only suggest it for plans under 200 Mbps.
Netgear EX3700 AC750 Overview
Hello, and thanks for taking the time to read our Netgear EX3700 Wi-Fi extender review.
This review explains who the EX3700 will help the most and what it offers. It’s suitable for many homes, depending on the Internet plan.
So, who is the Netgear EX3700 aimed at?
For homeowners with 200 Mbps or slower Internet plans, it’s the perfect option.
It provides a decent range and gets Wi-Fi to areas in your home where you need it.
However, when it comes to speed, it is one of the slowest Wi-Fi boosters we tested. But this doesn’t matter at all if your Internet plan is slow anyway.
On Wi-Fi, its coverage area is 50 feet, which isn’t the best either, but good for most homes. On Ethernet, it provides a 10-foot further (60 feet total) range. Again, usually enough for most average Internet users.
And while EX3700 isn’t without fault, it does have the additional benefit of being super affordable. And during installation, we encountered zero issues (a rare plus for a Netgear extender).
All in all, the Netgear EX3700 is an excellent extender, and we feel it’s well worth the money.

Design: Sleek, stealthy curves
One of our favorite aspects of the Nighthawk X6 is the design. Let’s face it, most Wi-Fi extenders are just not attractive. They tend to be big, plastic, utilitarian lumps with multiple antennae poking out here and there. However, like most other Netgear Nighthawk products, the X6 has a flat black, angular look, like a stealth bomber.
Lifewire / Claire Cohen
The X6 also forgoes a sin many extenders suffer: plugging directly into a wall outlet. The extender is thankfully designed like many of Netgear’s smaller routers. It has a small AC adapter that only takes up one plug, with no awkward overlap, and can sit on a table, desk, or another flat surface. The extender, minus any cords, is relatively small at 7.8 x 6 x 2 inches. Since it’s thin, you can either display it out in the open without taking up much table space or slip it behind or between something if you want it out of the way.
The non-plug-in design also has one incidental advantage aside from just looking better. Since you’re not limited by having to place the X6 directly into a wall socket, you can place it higher or lower in a room to more easily find that sweet spot where you’re at the optimum range from your router.
The X6 also forgoes a sin many extenders suffer: plugging directly into a wall outlet.
Finally, the inclusion of an easy-to-use on/off button is a great feature. While you likely won’t be turning it off much, it’s nice to have the option with a simple push button.
Netgear EX7000 —
Lifewire / Scot Braswell

Installation and Performance
Installing the EX7300 couldn’t be easier. I plugged it into a wall outlet in the same room as my router and pressed the WPS button. The WPS LED began blinking within seconds. I then pressed the WPS button on my router and waited a few seconds for the LED to glow a solid green, indicating a successful link to the router’s 2.4GHz band. I repeated this to connect to the 5GHz band and was ready to go.
The EX7300 turned in some of the highest scores we’ve seen in our 5GHz throughput tests. Its score of 338Mbps in the close-proximity (same-room) test was the highest yet, beating the Linksys RE7000 (310Mbps), the Amped Wireless High Power AC2600 Wi-Fi Range Extender With MU-MIMO (REC44M) (288Mbps), and the TP-Link RE450 (192Mbps), another top pick. The EX7300’s scores of 170Mbps at 25 feet and 115Mbps at 50 feet led the field. At 75 feet, its throughput of 66.7Mps came in behind the TP-Link RE450 (85Mbps) and the Amped Wireless REC44M (81.5Mbps), but was higher than the Linksys RE7000 (29.1Mbps).
In our 2.4GHz tests, the EX7300 scored 57.8Mbps (close proximity), 43.7Mbps (25 feet), 25.1Mbps (50 feet), and 12.6Mbps (75 feet). It beat the Linksys RE7000 across the board (46.1Mbps, 39.8Mbps, 18.6Mbps, and 8.4Mbps, respectively), but not the TP-Link RE450 (47.6Mbps, 44.5Mbps, 42.5Mbps, and 32.1Mbps). The Amped Wireless REC44M scored 53.6Mbps (close proximity), 48Mbps (25 feet), 21.4Mbps (50 feet), and 18.7Mbps (75 feet).
To test MU-MIMO performance, we use three identical Acer Aspire R13 laptops equipped with Qualcomm’s QCA61x4A MU-MIMO circuitry and measure throughput to all three clients at close proximity and from a distance of 30 feet. The EX7300 averaged 107Mbps in the close-proximity test, compared with the Linksys RE7000’s score of 115Mbps and the Amped Wireless REC44M’s throughput of 99.8Mbps. In the 30-foot test, the EX7300 scored 90.1Mbps to the Linksys RE7000’s 92.4Mbps and the Amped Wireless REC44M’s 89.9Mbps. To put these scores in perspective, our Editors’ Choice for midrange routers, the D-Link AC3150 Ultra Wi-Fi Router (DIR-885L/R), scored 237Mbps in the close-proximity test and 165Mbps in the 30-foot test.
Design and Features
At 6.3 by 3.2 by 1.7 inches (HWD), the EX7300 is slightly bigger than the TP-Link AC1750 Wi-Fi Range Extender (RE450) and the Linksys RE7000 Max-Stream AC1900+ Wi-Fi Range Extender, but it doesn’t use external antennas like the TP-Link RE450. Instead, it packs an internal antenna array into its slightly tapered chassis, along with multiple high-power amplifiers. It’s a dual-band AC2200 extender that can reach maximum speeds of 450Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and 1,733Mbps on the 5GHz band, and it supports the latest performance-enhancing Wi-Fi technologies, including beamforming, which sends data directly to clients rather than over a broad spectrum, and MU-MIMO streaming, which transmits data to compatible clients simultaneously instead of sequentially. It can be pressed into duty as a wireless extender or as a wired access point.

At the rear of the white-and-gray extender is a three-pronged plug, and there’s a single Gigabit LAN port on the bottom. Although the EX7300 doesn’t block the second receptacle on a typical wall outlet, it lacks a pass-through outlet.
The left side holds an Extender/Access Point switch, an On/Off button, a Reset button, and a WPS button. The front panel has LED indicators for Power, WPS activity, router link activity, and client link activity. The router and client LEDs are green when there’s an excellent connection, amber when there’s a good connection, and red when there’s a poor connection.

To access the EX7300’s settings, you type http://mywifiext.net(Opens in a new window) in your browser’s address bar to launch the console. It opens to a Status page that displays Internet and router connectivity status, wireless signal strength, and SSID information for each extended radio band. The Wireless Settings page lets you enable/disable each band, rename the SSID, change Wi-Fi passwords, and limit speeds for each band, and the Connected Devices allows you to view information for each connected client, including the IP address, Name, and MAC address. In the Do More menu, you’ll find a FastLane option that allows you to dedicate one of the radio bands to router/extender communications and the other to extender/client communications. While this may provide enhanced performance across the board, it should only be used if all of your clients are either 2.4GHz clients or 5GHz clients. If you have a mix of clients, leave this option disabled. Other settings allow you to back up settings, create access schedules, and update firmware.
Netgear EX3700 Reviews
Many online consumers have praised the Netgear EX3700 AC750 Wi-Fi extender. It has an excellent overall rating on Amazon, with over 72,000 positive reviews. Other e-commerce sites also have average ratings of 4/5 or more stars.
The cost-effectiveness and ease of use of the extender have been praised by many professional networkers and house owners, with several complimenting it.
However, some reviewers noted some complaints and disadvantages.
The complaints we did see about the EX3700 were about it breaking down in under a year and slowing the router’s download speed. But we didn’t experience either of these issues with the one we tested.
The EX3700, overall, is regarded as an excellent Wi-Fi signal extender by most consumers.

Competition: Lots of features, strong competition
The Nighthawk may be viewed as “overkill” when laid out against the rest of the pack of Wi-Fi extenders in the world, as it features a veritable laundry list of abilities that other devices simply don’t have, but the price also makes it stand out. It costs twice or thrice cheaper extenders like the TP-Link AC1200. Its true range is better, not to mention features like MU-MIMO, but we can’t help but think if you truly want to take advantage of mesh networking, you’d get something like the Netgear Orbi instead.

The Verdict
Top-tier extender, top-tier price.
The Netgear Nighthawk X6 EX7700 Mesh Wi-Fi Extender looks great, performs reliably, and is feature-packed. Unfortunately, the price is a bit too high compared to other extenders on the market, and the features that set it apart from the competition just aren’t a necessity for most users.

Netgear EX3700 features
Design
The Netgear EX3700 has a casing and body that is a bit bulky. It has a cube design that looks like an AC adapter with 2 antennas on either side. At the front are indicator lights for WPS, power, router, and device. On the left side are buttons for reset, on/off, WPS, and triangular air vents all-round the sides. On the right is an Ethernet port that can be hidden by one of the antennas if it’s facing down. It may not have the best-looking design, but at least you don’t have to place it on your desk for everyone to see it. It’s a plug-in extender so it will be hidden away from sight and it doesn’t block other outlets on your wall socket. It’s small and discreet and it can easily blend in with your home décor.
Setup process
There are two different ways you can connect your extender to your router. You can either the WPS buttons on both your router and extender which is the easiest and fastest way to set up your extender or you can opt to use the web browser setup which is also simple and efficient. You don’t need to install any software and you can use the web-centric device management if you want to keep things easy. After the initial setup, you can customize the settings and make the necessary change you want.
Using the WPS buttons, you just plug in the extender to a power socket near your main router and turn it on. Press the WPS button on your extender then the WPS button on your router after 2 minutes. The LED WPS button on your extender will light up and the router button will turn green. With the Netgear Genie setup, you just type www.mywifiext.net on your browser and the setup wizard will guide you through the process. You can choose to rename your extended networks for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
Performance
The Netgear EX3700 can help to improve your wifi signal range by up to 750 Mbps throughout your home and with the external antennas, it can strengthen the signal. Using FastLane technology and the dual-bands will allow you to use both wifi band frequencies to create a higher speed connection and also help to reduce interference. This also means you can easily stream HD videos and play online games using both wifi bands. The Netgear EX3700 extender supports the latest wifi standards, the 802.11ac/b/g/n/ so it can be compatible with most of the devices in your home for faster wifi connectivity. This extender can work with any standard wifi router so you don’t have to worry about buying a new router.
Who is it best suited for?
The Netgear EX3700 range extender is the perfect device if you’re working on a budget and you need an extender that will provide enough wifi coverage to eliminate the dead spots in your home. It’s a great extender for small homes and rooms and will boost your wifi signal with a steady wifi signal in your apartment or small room.
